What is the Liturgy Ministry?

Liturgy Planning:
People who are interested in the planning of liturgical seasons and some special events are asked to consider becoming a part of the Liturgy planning team. Experience is welcome, though not a prerequisite. The team meets on the 4th Wednesday of the month.

Music:
Singers and competent instrumentalists are especially requested to consider the music ministry. There are openings for the choirs which sing the 5:00 P.M. Saturday and 9:30 Sunday Masses. Instrumentalists are welcome at these times as well. The groups practice on Thursday evenings from September to June, and sing three out of four weekends during this time. Cantors/song leaders are also needed for substitutions and summer singing. Children who enjoy singing are invited to join the Children's Choir, which sings at masses which will be scheduled throughout the year. Teens who enjoy singing or play an instrument are invited to join the teen music group.

Altar Servers:
Girls and boys from the 6th grade through high school are welcome to join the altar servers ministry. These young people are regularly scheduled to assist at weekend and holy day Masses. They also have the opportunity to serve at weddings and funerals.

Art & Environment:
Persons interested in assisting with church decoration and occasional floral arranging and maintenance are invited to assist our artist/banner maker in seasonal decorating.

Ministers of Communion:
Men and women of high school age and over are needed in the service of communion distribution at regularly scheduled weekend Masses, holy day Masses and at daily Mass.

Lectors:
All those having skill in public speaking and a love for Scripture are asked to consider the ministry of lector at regular Sunday and holy day Masses. Lectors are trained.

Greeters:
Anyone who enjoys making others feel welcome is a natural for this ministry. Singles, couples, and families are all encouraged to participate. Greeters are trained to fill the most important position of making others feel welcome to St. Thomas and are scheduled once or twice each month at the Mass of their choice. This is a great way for a family to be involved together.

Ushers:
Men, women and teens are invited to participate in this ministry. Ushers are trained for their ministry of assisting members of the community and continuing the welcome inside the Church. They are scheduled at the Mass of their choice once or twice per month. Children are invited to assist with the collection at all masses

Hospitality:
If you enjoy meeting people or love to bake, this is a ministry you would enjoy. Men, women and teens are encouraged to join this ministry which involves baking or setting up the Hospitality Table after our 9:30 am Sunday liturgy. As well as setting up the table, Hospitality Ministers are an extension of the welcoming ministry of the parish.
